Lindt Chocolate Cafe

Cascading chocolate on flower-shaped waffles in a cafe caressed by chocolate aromas.

Our experience

With one at every street corner, down every cobbled laneway, on every office building lobby floor, Melbourne CBD is not wanting for cafes. It has been wanting though, for cafes that offer interesting takes on the routine breakfast/brunch/lunch options, and/or a different cafe experience. Constructed as irresistible chocolate wonderlands, most specialty chocolate boutiques offer a selection of chocolate cakes, mini chocolates, and chocolate-based drinks. Some also offer chocolate fondue sets and chocolate waffles. However, in MoMo & Coco’s experience, no chai latte is more genuinely flavoursome nor waffle more aesthetically beautiful and simply perfect for that sweet breakfast, than that available at the Lindt Chocolate Cafe.

Created in a 10-petal, flower-shaped waffle, Lindt’s Signature Waffles ($17) fills the entire plate and is accompanied with an exquisitely round scoop of creamy vanilla bean icecream (and one can actually see the black dots of vanilla bean). The piece-de-resistance is the other accompaniment — one small jug of molten hot chocolate fudge to pour over your waffle, as much or as little as desired. MoMo & Coco barely finished one quarter of that chocolate jug, sooo rich, hmmmmm… irresistible…

Our verdict

Lindt Chocolate Cafe offers a range of such pre-made wrapped chocolate bars that one frequently encounters in supermarkets, alongside a small range of (dry, crunchy) macarons and lovely, but rather expensive ($10+) cakes. For MoMo & Coco, the product that distinguishes Lindt Chocolate Cafe from other chocolate boutiques are the waffles depicted in this journal-blog post (and the sundaes, which also deserve a special mention but which are not pictured here). MoMo & Coco would recommend having these indulgent signature waffles at the Lindt Chocolte Cafe at the Darling Harbour site in Sydney, for some lovely soothing views. Alternatively, the colonnaded grandeur of Melbourne’s Collins Street Lindt Chocolate Cafe is hard to beat.
